"In America we call this a marriage made in heaven," says Dr. Margee Ensign, president of the American University of Nigeria.
The school is teaming up with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture to build an agricultural innovation hub in Adamawa State in Nigeria, the Telegraph reports.
"We have come together to partner to work on these two fundamental challenges: food insecurity and poor education," says Dr. Kenton Dashiell, the IITA's deputy director-general.
"We have some commonalities with the AUN, but we also have some distinct areas that would be highly complementary," Dashiell says.
A statement from the school says the IITA will set up a research station in the North-East region of Nigeria to complete its ecological coverage of the country.
"We can together develop radio and mobile programs to educate women on nutrition and health, and farmers to increase agricultural productivity," Ensign says.
