Arizona Autism Charter Schools has won the $1 million grand prize in the annual Yass Prize for Sustainable Education, a private grant-making effort funded by the philanthropists Janine and Jeff Yass.
Out of 2,700 schools nationwide, 64 made the quarterfinals, earning $100,000, 23 semi-finalists earned $200,000, eight finalists earned $500,000, and the grand prize winner was announced this week.
"The example of winning school, and indeed all 64 quarterfinalists, should inform educators everywhere," writes Tim Scott of the Center for Education Reform in a glowing review of the schools.
The grand prize winner is dedicated to "serving neurodivergent learners," including children with autism and dyslexia, and hopes to open similar schools in every state.
