If you’re worried about your baby’s head injury, Consumer Reports has some advice: Get a seat with a “load leg.” A load leg is a feature that extends from the base of a car seat to the floor of the car, allowing the seat and load leg to absorb more force in a crash.
When tested on baby dummies, the test subjects saw a 46% reduction in head injuries when they were in a seat with a load leg, compared to those in a non-load leg seat.
“Before shopping for a seat with a load leg, check your car’s manual for compatibility,” Consumer Reports advises.
“Also pairing lower anchors with a load-leg car seat can offer an even greater level of safety.”
