A suburban Chicago foundation is putting its money where its mouth is.

The Skokie Community Foundation has issued more than $220,000 in grants since 2015 and will be awarding $25,000 in its 2024 grant cycle, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The deadline to apply is Sept.

6.

Last year's winners included Connections for the Homeless, which received $15,000 to provide emergency funding to Skokie families in danger of losing their homes.

A $10,000 grant went to the Early Childhood Alliance, which went to bringing in a social worker for preschools within Niles Township.

One of the foundation's requirements is that one of the co-applicants be a nonprofit, government, or social service agency, says executive director Jim Szczepaniak.

"It sort of encourages agencies that are nonprofits that are already doing a good job to step out of their normal siloed way of doing business and think, 'Who else can we be working with, to meet some unmet need in Skokie, that we can use this money for,'" he says.
