Innovation in Education: The Code Academy Amplifies Dyslexia Awareness, Support

–Tammy Spencer is known as the "Dyslexia Lady of Houston ISD."

She's also the founder of the Dyslexia School of Houston and the Code Academy, a non-profit she founded in 2020 to help kids with dyslexia and reading difficulties.

She's also about to open a center of her own.

The Houston Chronicle reports the two are teaming up with the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children's Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning to open the Dyslexia School of Houston Neighborhood Training Center and Lab School, which will specialize in training and developing future dyslexia educators.

"Our primary goal at this facility is to train and develop future dyslexia educators," Spencer says in a press release.

"Once they complete our training program, they can then seek licensure through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to become Licensed Dyslexia Therapists."

The center will offer services to about 35 Houston-area students at no cost.
