There's a "growing imperative" to " minimize reliance on pharmacological interventions and explore alternative, non-invasive, and technologically advanced methods for pain management" in pediatric patients, according to a report by MedTech Outlook.
And that means using technologies like virtual reality, wearable devices, remote monitoring, and apps specifically for children to manage their pain.
The report finds that wearable devices like TENS units, which deliver low-level electrical currents to specific areas, can help manage chronic pain conditions like juvenile arthritis, while robots and smart devices can offer comfort and support.
Telemedicine and remote monitoring also play a role in managing pain for children, and apps can include games, interactive tools, and trackers that help children learn how to manage their pain and adhere to medication.
The pain management market for children is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 7% over the next five years, according to the report.
