For the first time in its history, Qatar is holding a national science and innovation competition for elementary and high school students, the BBC reports.
The competition, called National Science and Innovation Week, was launched in 2014 by the country's education minister to "encourage and develop student research culture, nurturing them to become scientists and innovators for the future of Qatar," according to a statement from Qatar's National Research Development Innovation Council.
This year's theme: "Promising Researchers for Qatar."
More than 712 schools took part in the competition, which was narrowed down to 160 projects in various fields, including humanitarian, technology, and engineering, Al Jazeera reports.
The winners will be announced Nov.
23.
