"Access to affordable, quality child care is not a social issueit's an economic issue," says Rhode Island Secretary of State Gina Raimondo.
That's why she's co-hosting the first-ever National Child Care Innovation Summit later this year, with the US Chamber of Commerce and the Commerce Department as co-hosts, the Providence Journal reports.
"Stakeholders from the public and private sectors will be invited to discuss the importance of childcare for working families and how to better incorporate this vital tool into everyday life," Raimondo says.
"If we're to train and retain workers for 21st-century jobs, we need to provide them with the economic infrastructure they need to stay in those jobs and care for their families," she adds.
