Steve Ballmer knows a thing or two about philanthropy.
The former Microsoft CEO and his wife, Connie, have donated $425 million to create the Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The institute, which will be located in Portland, will work with public schools, families, and community groups in an effort to improve the mental and behavioral health of Oregon's children.
The institute will offer a new degree program in children's behavioral health, as well as a certificate program for professionals who will work with children in schools and organizations.
"Steve and Connie are passionate about improving the mental and behavioral health of our nation's children, and we are thrilled to be a part of their mission," Michael Chill, the university's president, said in a statement.
The Ballmers' gift will allow the university to create and deliver intervention and treatment programs that can be integrated into the daily lives of Oregon's children, the Oregonian reports.
