When Brian Shrum opened Shandey's restaurant in Georgetown, Calif., earlier this year, he couldn't figure out why there wasn't a pumpkin patch in the area.
So he decided to buy a lot of them and put them out on hay bales, reports the Redding Record Searchlight.
And that's exactly what happened last week.
Shrum invited students from Georgetown School of Innovation to come by and pick out a pumpkin for ice cream, and when El Dorado County sheriff's deputy George Madaryan showed up to load them into his patrol SUV, the whole back half of the vehicle was filled with them.
"The deputy stepped up and it was truly impressive just how many pumpkins fit in the sheriff's patrol SUV," says a post on Shandey's Facebook page.
"Luckily, his radio remained silent.
It was a special day for children and adults alike and has all the makings of becoming an annual event."
