Art Basel Miami Beach is one of the world's biggest art shows, and this year's edition is especially notable for another reason: It's the debut of VaynerX, a crypto-currency company founded by Russian entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk.
As CoinDesk explains, VaynerX is a way for people to invest in cryptocurrencies, and it works like this: You buy an art piece, pay for it with a token called a VaynerX token, and when it's sold, you get more tokens to spend on other things from VaynerX.
The idea is that people who invest in these tokens will be rewarded with more tokens in the future, and they'll be able to invest in other cryptocurrencies as well.
As CoinDesk puts it, VaynerX is "making it easier for people to invest in (cryptocurrencies), but also harder for those who already own (cryptocurrencies) to sell them."
In fact, it's so easy to get an NFT that Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says the city's 54 local artists were "empowered" to create one for charity, reports the Miami Herald.
"We empowered 54 local artists in Miami so that each of them could create an NFT that could be sold
