A Scottish charity that fights for children's education around the world has been named one of the world's "10 most progressive charities" by the Sunday Times.
Theirworld was founded in 1995 by Sarah Brown, who set up the Jennifer Brown Research Fund in 2002 to invest in the best medical research for safe pregnancy and premature birth, per a press release.
The fund helped fund the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory in Edinburgh, which in 2004 became the Edinburgh Birth Cohort, a group of hundreds of premature babies born in the city.
"We've grown faster and further than we ever thought we would," says Brown, who is now the charity's chair.
In its 20th anniversary year, Theirworld helped more than 2,000 young activists in 124 countries fight for education, safe schools, and skills for the future, the press release notes.
The group's #LetMeLearn campaign, which it launched in July, gave 10,000 young people in 10 countries the opportunity to tell world leaders their experiences of education, challenges, and demands for change, the release notes.
Its #LetMeLearn campaign generated more than 30,000 social media posts from more than 180 countries, "resulting in two billion potential impressions," the press release notes.
