"It seems that AI in today's world is a solution in search of a problem," Kerri Webster, chief analytics officer at Children's Hospital Colorado, tells Becker's Hospital Review.
"We need to flip that paradigm and truly understand the problem and insert technology solutions to address specific issues."
Webster is referring to artificial intelligence, or AI, which is increasingly being used to solve problems in the health care industry.
For example, some hospitals are using it to predict how many patients will be admitted or discharged in a given month.
Others are using it to predict how many staff members will leave a hospital in a given year.

"Using predictive modeling to identify turnover risks, leveraging modeling to support creative staffing schedules, identifying patient acuity models to support patient assignments, leveraging predictive models to synthesize large amounts of clinical data to expedite decisionmaking, or identifying pipelines of the workforce to be ready to step into roles."
But not everyone is convinced AI is the answer.
"We need to flip that paradigm and truly understand the problem," Webster tells Becker's.
" automate manual systems, augment expertise, and take technology solutions to address specific issues....
