The Betty M.
Condra School for Education Innovation has a new home, and it's got bullet-resistant glass and a receptionist who will be "buzzing" with visitors, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
The 4-year-old public charter school in Lubbock, Texas, recently moved from its previous location several blocks away to a renovated former Kaplan College building.
The school, which caters to children with special learning differences, hopes to eventually have 300 students in the 24,500-square-foot building.
The renovations included security measures, with bullet-resistant glass and a receptionist who will be "super safe for our children," Lisa Sheek, the school's director of community outreach and family liaison, tells the Avalanche-Journal.
"We like the area, it's been convenient for our children and is in close proximity to where we are," she says.
"We're bringing lots of families in to kind of boost the economy here.
The city has given a lot of grant money for people to renovate and try to make things nicer in downtown."
Part of the interior upgrades include security measures, with bullet-resistant glass and a receptionist who will "buzz" people in.
The school broke ground on the renovations last summer.
