People in Malta have a new way to help some of the world's poorest children, the Times of Malta reports.
A non-profit called Sponsor My Future works with children in the slums of Ruiru in Nairobi, Kenya.
Most people in the densely populated and semi-industrial area live with their families in single rented rooms that lack electricity, water, and drainage systems.
"This highly unhygienic and polluted environment leaves the population vulnerable to disease and violence, which can lead to deaths and parentless children," the Times of Malta quotes Sponsor My Future founder Laura Paris as saying.
She says that every donation "gives a child the chance to grow and develop, enabling them to reach their full potential at home and at school."
The crowdfunding campaign on Zaar aims to raise at least $1,000 to cover the children's school tuition and exam fees, as well as their basic needs, such as clothes, shoes, books, stationery, hygiene essentials, and nutritious meals.
Paris says that with every donation, "the generosity of the Maltese public donating through Zaar will be a turning point in the lives of so many of these young people."
In addition to the fundraising campaign, staff from Arctech Innovation, a UK-based center of excellence for entomological research,
A customized collection of grant news from foundations and the federal government from around the Web.
