"We have to zoom out to look at our experience for the entire pandemic, to understand that what we're dealing with now is far from any crisis that we've experienced with previous waves," Dr. John Brownstein, an innovation officer at Boston Children's Hospital, tells ABC News.
He's referring to the H7N9 strain of bird flu that has been surging in the US over the last few months.
According to the CDC, the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose 14.3% from 9,026 to 10,320 between the week ending Aug.
5 and the week ending Aug.

That's still a low number, but it's higher than the number of hospitalizations that peaked in January 2022 at 150,674, when the Omicron variant of the flu was surging.
"We have to remember that we're still dealing with numbers that are far less than what we've seen for the pandemic," Brownstein says.
"We have to zoom out to look at our experience for the entire pandemic, to understand that what we're dealing with now is far from any crisis that we've experienced with previous waves."
