A Florida nonprofit has been awarded an $84,000 grant to develop affordable, multi-gesture bionic prosthetics for children born without an arm, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Limbitless Solutions, a research center at the University of Central Florida, will use the money to expand its student scholars program, which has supported more than 325 students since 2014, as well as to open a new research lab in UCF's Research Park.
"This will enable our program to provide more opportunities that can unleash the potential of our students and create magical moments for our bionic kids and families," says Albert Manero, executive director of Limbitless Solutions.
Disney's donation is part of $1.5 million donated to 19 nonprofit organizations in Central Florida through its Disney Grants program, which "celebrates 19 different nonprofit organizations and leaders that are making a positive impact in Central Florida," per a Disney press release.
Limbitless will use the grant to expand its student scholars program by 30% and open a new manufacturing facility in 2021.
