For the second time in history, the world is on the verge of erasing polio.
The European Commission, the European Investment Bank, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a $1.1 billion plan Tuesday to ensure that 370 million children in low-income countries get immunized against the disease, the Guardian reports.
The funding will come from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The World Health Organization and UNICEF, the implementing partners for the funding, will use the resources to eradicate polio, support the distribution of other childhood immunizations, and strengthen health systems.
