"A child can do anything," says Anton Dziuba.
"They may not be interested in programming, but they can program."
That's one way Dziuba and other educators in Ukraine are trying to help some of the country's 3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have fled their homes during the country's four-year war with Russia, the International Business Times reports.
Dziuba is the head of the Educational Initiatives Foundation charity organization, which has set up a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education center in the city of Cherkasy.
It's a place where IDPs can get free internet access and learn digital competencies, such as programming robots.
"We also helped teachers in the frontline areas to complete their annual certification," says Nataliia Chepurna, rector of the Cherkasy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education of Teachers.
"By the beginning of the summer of 2022, more than 3,500 teachers from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and other regions were able to improve their skills remotely."
More than 200 people attend classes each month at the center, which has laptops teachers can use to run practical exercises, creating presentations, and more.
