If you're in New Mexico and want to start a child care center of your own, you're in luck: The state has teamed up with Wonderschool, a tech company that offers online courses for home-based child care providers, to offer financial assistance to would-be home-based child care providers, the New York Daily News reports.
The state's Early Childhood Education and Care Department and Wonderschool are calling the initiative "a significant leap forward in making quality child care accessible," noting that fewer than one child care slot is available for every three children in the state.
"Breaking down barriers to entry," Wonderschool says in a press release, "is Wonderschool has introduced a series of stipends and reimbursements designed to alleviate the initial costs associated with launching a child care center.
This financial support covers a range of critical needs, including licensing fees, insurance, and startup expenses, thereby smoothing the path for new entrants into the child care sector."
