That's the mission of the UNICEF Venture Fund, which is launching a new era with a pledge from 26 tech companiesof which 36% are from emerging economiesthat will provide financial or in-kind support to help UNICEF solve some of the world's "most challenging problems affecting children," the fund says in a press release.
Over the last decade, the Venture Fund has made equity-free financial investments in 81 companies in 37 countries, providing mentoring and access to markets for solutions to some of the world's most challenging problems.
Now, the fund " embarks on a new era of its investment approach," it says.
"Our vision is to expand its reach and leverage potential of technology for good, alumni start-ups working on frontier technologies including artificial intelligence, blockchain, and machine learning, all from emerging economies," says lead investor Hanna Burkhardt.
