Since it opened in September, Arkansas' first and only proton therapy center has treated almost 100 cancer patients, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.
According to Arkansas Business, that's more than double the number treated at the center before it openedand it's the only one of its kind in the US.
Proton therapy is a type of radiation therapy that uses beams of electrons to target cancer cells.
It's proven to be effective against a wide range of cancers, and the new center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is said to be the first of its kind in the US to do so.
